Dr. Mahabir Pun is a Nepalese social entrepreneur

Dr. Mahabir Pun is a Nepalese social entrepreneur and education activist who has dedicated his life to improving the lives of people in rural areas of Nepal through technology and education. He was born on March 31, 1953, in the remote village of Nangi in the Myagdi district of Nepal.

Pun grew up in poverty and had to walk several hours every day to attend school. Despite the challenges, he was determined to get an education and eventually went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Master's degree in Education from the University of Hawaii.

After completing his education, Pun returned to Nepal and began working as a teacher in a remote village in the Himalayas. It was during this time that he realized the urgent need for technology and education in the region, which was lacking basic infrastructure and resources.

In 2000, Pun founded the Nepal Wireless Networking Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing internet connectivity to rural areas of Nepal. The project involved building wireless networks using solar power and providing computer training to villagers.

Through his work, Pun has helped to bridge the digital divide and provide access to education and information to people in some of the most remote areas of Nepal. He has also established schools and libraries, and has worked to promote sustainable tourism in the region.

Pun's work has been widely recognized, and he has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to education and technology. In 2007, he was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award, often referred to as Asia's Nobel Prize, for his visionary work in using technology to improve the lives of people in rural Nepal.

Today, Pun continues to work tirelessly to improve the lives of people in rural areas of Nepal. He is a shining example of how one person's determination and dedication can make a significant impact on the world.
